At Kid Friendly Dentistry, every visit is built around one goal: helping children feel safe, welcome, and proud of their smiles. Our pediatric dentist and team in Tustin care for kids from infancy through college. A child’s first visits shape how they feel about the dentist for life, so we make them count.

Meet Dr. Houman Mizani, Pediatric Dentist
Dr. Houman Mizani is a pediatric dentist, a dental specialist trained to care for children’s teeth, gums, and growing mouths. He treats patients from infancy through college, including children with special healthcare needs.
Dr. Mizani explains each step in plain, kid-friendly language, goes at your child’s pace, and sees one patient at a time, so no visit feels rushed. For nervous kids, he offers nitrous oxide. For children with extreme anxiety or very young age, deeper sedation is an option. He recommends treatment only when your child needs it, and he’ll tell you honestly when waiting is fine.
His Tustin office is at 13420 Newport Ave., and new patients are welcome.

Our Approach to Children's Dental Care
You’ll always know what’s going on
We explain findings, options, and costs in plain language. You hear what we see, what we recommend, and why. Nothing happens without your help.
Anxious kids get patience first
Gentle communication comes before anything else. When a child needs more, we add nitrous oxide, and deeper sedation is available for extreme anxiety or very young children.
Every child is welcome
Children with special healthcare needs get the time and approach that works for them. Tell us what keeps your child calm.
Prevention comes first
The best treatment is the one your child never needs. Preventive care catches problems early, and gentle cavity treatment fixes small ones before they hurt.
We’re here when it matters
Whenever possible, we offer same-day appointments for dental emergencies and dental trauma.
More ways we help: early orthodontic evaluation, tongue-tie and frenectomy treatment, and your child’s first visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should my child first see a dentist?
By their first birthday, or within six months of their first tooth, whichever comes first. That’s the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s recommendation. An early visit catches problems before they hurt and gets your child comfortable with the dentist. See what happens at your first visit.
How do you help children who are afraid of the dentist?
Patience, plain explanations, and your child’s pace. We tell, show, then do, and use distraction to keep kids at ease. If a child needs more help, nitrous oxide takes the edge off, and deeper sedation is an option for extreme anxiety or very young children. Dr. Mizani recommends it only when it will help.
What makes a pediatric dentist different from a general dentist?
A pediatric dentist completes additional residency training after dental school, focused on children from infancy through the teen years. That includes how kids’ teeth develop, behavior guidance, and caring for children with special healthcare needs. A general dentist treats all ages. A pediatric dentist treats only kids.
Do you accept my dental insurance?
We accept most insurance plans. Plans vary, so call (714) 832-1343 with your insurance details and we’ll point you in the right direction. You can also see our insurance page. Don’t let coverage questions keep you from booking a first visit.
Do you treat children with special healthcare needs?
Yes. Children with special healthcare needs are welcome, and we take the time each visit needs. Dr. Mizani reviews your child’s history, listens to what works for them, and recommends an approach, including sedation when it helps. Tell us about diagnoses and what keeps your child calm.
